The aim of the SmUV study is to evaluate the perception and handling of a tool for social and motivational support when implementing intentions to enhance mental well-being in everyday life. Additionally, we investigate to what extent the tool is perceived as support for the implementation of self-chosen tasks in daily life.
Course of the study:
The study is conducted completely online. Therefore, the participants can fill in the questionnaires at home and test the tool independent of time and location (internet access required).
- At the first day of the study the participants fill in one of two online questionnaires. This takes about 20 minutes and should enable an insight into the current life situation.
- Afterwards, the participants receive their personal link via e-mail to enter the tool and they can then test it for one week. During this period of time the participants are accompanied by a fictitious character, a chatbot. In the tool they can enter new tasks and are presented an overview with their current tasks including the status of completion. The testing of the tool takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes each day.
- After one week all participants get access to the second and final online questionnaire. This questionnaire should enable an insight how they’ve experienced the time in between and especially the testing of the tool. This takes again about 20 minutes.
- At the end of the second questionnaire the participants can choose if they want to participate in a raffle of 3 book vouchers worth 40 CHF (available in euros too) or receive the confirmation of 3 proband hours.
- Some of the participants are then asked to take part in an interview focusing on the perception of the chatbot. This takes about 30 minutes and to analyze the interviews in a systematic way they are recorded. After the completion of the interview the participants receive another 0.5 proband hours or a book voucher worth 15 CHF (available in euros too).
Overall, the study participation takes up to 3 hours over a period of 7 to 9 days.
How to participate?
The study was completed in March 2020 and, therefore, the participation is no longer possible. The winners of the raffle have been contacted per e-mail.
