Passing on parental attitudes and behaviours across generations
Description:
Parents differ in their parenting behaviour – but why? One possible explanation is that attitudes and behaviours towards parenting are passed down through generations. For this reason, in this study we investigate how parenting practices are passed on from grandparents to their children and what role the relationship between the generations plays in this. To do this, we are interviewing parents and grandparents from the same family. Parents and grandparents can take part if their eldest or only child is between 2 and 6 years old. We are particularly looking for fathers and grandfathers.
Participants complete an online questionnaire in which they report on their parenting experiences and attitudes. This gives us valuable insights into the transmission of parenting values and their influence on children's development. As a thank you, you will receive a small gift for the (grand)child and a summary of the study results.
