How do children with different language backgrounds communicate and what role does their environment play?

How do children with different language backgrounds communicate and what role does their environment play?

Description:

In this study, we want to find out how children with different linguistic backgrounds - monolingual, bilingual, multilingual or bidialectal (e.g. Swiss German - High German) - communicate and understand language. We want to better understand which experiences influence language development and how children communicate in different environments.

The study consists of two parts:

Part 1: A visit with us where your child plays various games to assess vocabulary and language comprehension.

Part 2: Questions to parents about the language environment and everyday communication and wearing a small microphone (for 12 hours) that records the situations in which children hear and use language. The study investigates the development of children. For this reason, the participating children will be invited back to us in two years' time.
